Well pirate, some tales are too tall to believe, while others still are destined to obscurity. Aye, you’d be well advised to take this one here to heart. Her truth is as real as the seas below your hull and the heavens o’er your mast…

The Legend of the Dragon Ship
Many moons long since gone, there was a Viking in the north by the name of Moral Ironjaw. As any pirate or Viking worth his weight in gold, Ironjaw plundered and pillaged any village he came upon on his way to becoming the most feared pirate on the seven seas. His thirst for treasure unshakeable, he happened upon a theretofore uncharted area. Ancient buildings crowned the hills on the isle’s shoreline, piquing Ironjaw’s curiosity. He docked his ship to explore to the obfuscated terrain, which concealed a cave hidden by emerald umbrage. They descended and stumbled upon a mountain of gold, gems and pearls the likes of which had never been seen.

However, after their ship was laden with the booty and loot, an inhuman scream cascaded down from the mountains in the heart of the island. Unbeknownst to Ironjaw and his crew was that they had just pilfered Celerita the dragon’s treasure he’d amassed over centuries. In a jealous rage, Celerita followed the escaping ship across the seas, far and wide, diving down and breathing fire. All appeared lost, until a cunning trick dawned on the battle-hardened captain that sealed their escape.

But Celerita refused to admit defeat and scoured the world over for Moral. One day, the dragon crossed paths with the pirate in the buccaneer’s village. Ironjaw could hardly believe his eyes as he watched the mammoth dragon dive down upon his beloved dwelling and swallow his beloved wife whole. Moral screamed in mourning and scorn. He did everything imaginable to exact his revenge and slay the leathery beast, but his thick scales deflected every attack of bow and metal. Celerita set the entire village ablaze and was off.

Now it was Moral who sought revenge, refusing to rest until vengeance was his. His thirst for revenge led to the invention of an abominable weapon that propelled glowing shrapnel. This precursor to the cannon possessed enough force and power to mortally wound the dragon. For years Ironjaw sought the beast, killing any dragon that crossed his path and collecting the skins to adorn his ship. A decade on, the two foes met again – on the same island of their first encounter. When Celerita saw the skin of his brethren adorning Ironjaw’s ship, he descended upon the ship in hate-filled rage. Moral saw the attack coming, evaded it and struck Celerita in the flank. A shriek of pain howled from the belly of the beast as converged on the ship, before hurling it deep into the island’s core.

The lion’s share of the crew was killed as the ship landed, but the ship itself remained intact thanks to the succor of the skin. Moral Ironjaw stood on the ship’s bow, the cannon under his arm and wailed his defiance to Celerita. The dragon snatched the pirate and as he was about to fling him into the depths of the sea, Ironjaw fired one last shot from point blank, striking him in the stomach. The dragon fell from the heavens, bloodied, with Ironjaw firmly in his grips. Together they plummeted to the bottom of the sea. No matter how diligent the lone survivors kept watch for their captain, he was never seen again.

The ship, however, is rumored to lie on the island to this very day, waiting to be discovered by a pirate courageous and sound enough of purpose. But whispers abound that the last spawns of Celerita still lurk on the island as guardians of the ship. The ship is invaluable beyond comprehension. Many a pirate has tried to find the storied ship, and just as many have never been seen again…
