Pirate Storm with Erika Golz.

Many a yarn told in the dark and smoky taverns of the Western Territories. Most turn out to be tall tales, or fables fit for frightening infants - but the following story is as true as it is tragic:

Once upon a time, when this corner of the world was still fresh and new, four brave Captains led an expedition into the frozen north. Their aim was to scout out islands suitable for possible new colonies. The Icerock Narrows, however, are bleak and dangerous, barely capable of sustaining life - and the Captains were quick to decide that they had no future in those icy climes. If they'd only known how wrong they were...

The Captains hove to and pointed their bows south, but it was already too late. They had penetrated too far into the ice, and it froze back around them - they could neither sail forwards nor retreat. Grim, they prepared themselves for the worst - but there was no preparing for what was to follow.

Terrible howls tore through the storm winds on the second night. The ships were attacked by monstrous wolves. Some crewmen fell to them as others fought; some, driven gibbering into the dark, lie frozen in the ice to this day. They were the lucky ones, as the remainder faced a fate more terrible still than death. If bitten by a wolf, they themselves were transformed into wolf-creatures that ran on two legs, both vicious and intelligent. So, night after night, more and more of the expedition's members became the victims of these wolves, trapped in the ice with no hope of help.

It is said that not a single one escaped; none were ever seen again. The story also states that these wolf-men, known as Frostwolves, built an empire. of their own and ruled it ruthlessly. How many of the story's details are perfectly true, only the frozen sea knows for sure - but nothing could be more real than the threat currently heading to the Western Territories! More and more sailors report that ships that "drag winter behind them" are raiding trade routes, islands are covered with ice and snow and... colonized!

Ahoy, Captains!
Just a few days ago our new version 1.1.4 went live, and with it the new Achievements system. The patch unfortunately brought a few technical problems with it. These have now been cleaned up and we beg your pardon for any inconvenience. As you can imagine, a system with over 150 Achievements and more than 1,200 achievement stages might have a bug or two as stowaways at the start. I hope you've already claimed any number of Achievements and that the rewards are to your fancy.
Versions 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 also included numerous improvements and innovations and for today I'd like to provide a quick overview over of what we've got planned for our next version — 1.2.0 — in December. As always be aware that some things can't be rushed; if we don't get it to the quality we want in time, we'll push off certain parts to the next quarter. Which is a long way of saying: no promises here, just a preview from our design studio of what's ahead.
Let's start with the biggest thing first — the reworking of the game world.
We're redoing the game world so that all zones are directly in relation to one another, to give more of the feel of a contiguous world.
This will get your into the other climatic zones much earlier, letting even lower level players see the real diversity of the complete Pirate Storm experience. One part of this is the new ice world. Our cartographers have found the passage into the icy waters of the north. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we have.

To accompany this we're redoing our level system. One change in the new system is the restricted PvP. As you know, the restricted PvP is currently based on equipped ships. That'll soon be changing — in the future we'll be comparing the level of the two players looking to start a battle in the zones with restricted PvP.
Beyond the playing world, we're also making it easier to join Pirate Storm and will introduce new quests in the first four zones. With better rewards and new quest maps, boss opponents and new daily quests. The goal is to redo all quests over time to fit this new system.
You've been complaining long and loud that there's nothing to do with all the sails, 6 pounders and other booty you find in the deep sea diver. And our answer has always been: just wait, we've got a system planned to let you put all that plunder to work. This system has unfortunately once again missed its window for implementation in the next few months, so we're going to be removing all gold objects from the deep sea diver. At that point you'll only still be finding diamond objects.
We are naturally also working on a winter event — and this year's version will bump it up a notch over last year's. We weren't the only ones to discover the passage between the ice world and the northern territories — the Ice Wolves have as well, and are launching an invasion with their fleet. Three guild islands have already been captured. The merchant houses need the help of your guild to avert complete disaster. Draw together your guild and launch your counterattack against the guild islands of the Ice Wolves.

You hear that the merchant houses have a major reward in store for the greatest pirates, probably including a version of the guild shop the Frostbrand.

On another note: we're quite aware that the action bar is overfilled and have already started work on a new version with our Design department. You can expect more space and better controls. What we can't say just yet is when the new action bar will go live. We appreciate your patience. To make the wait go a little more quickly, we're permanently cutting the prices on many items.
And now for something much less pleasant: it appears that the first Bots have reared their ugly heads in Pirate Storm. You know just as well as we do that Bots can ruin a game in a hurry.
We're tackling this problem head on right at the start to ensure the Bots have no success in Pirate Storm. We can't reveal all the details to you but this much we can say: when a Bot user checks in the morning to see what his creation gathered the night before, he'll have the unpleasant discovery that the results of the last ten hours are one single Hydro crystal.
We're also taking measures to ensure that honest players are not impacted by these measures. And we've got a couple of aces up our sleeve that you'll probably never find out about. But the goal is clear: we're not going to let Bots ruin our game.
There's a lot going on in Pirate Storm and we hope you're looking forward to December as much as we are!
May ye have wind in your sails, water under the keel and plenty of rum down below!
Best regards,
Philip
